David Hamilton

Biography:

David Hamilton was re-elected MP for Midlothian in May 2010 with a majority of 10,349.

David Hamilton was elected Labour MP for Midlothian in June 2001 and re-elected in May 2005 to serve a second term. Prior to the election he was a Midlothian Councillor for 6 years and has a Mining and Trade Union background.

David worked as a miner from 1966 to 1985 in various collieries and was
Union Delegate at Monktonhall Colliery 1976 to 1986. During the
1984/1985 Miners Strike he was a well know figure leading 26 strike centres covering Mid and East Lothian. He was sacked by the Coal Board during the strike but won his industrial tribunal for unfair dismissal, the Coal Board refused to reinstate him.

He has been part of 4 select committees since entering Parliament in
2001 – Work & Pensions, Scottish Affairs, Procedures and he is currently on the Defence Select Committee.

He has recently been appointed PPS to Ed Miliband in the new Energy and Climate Change Department.
