Dan Rogerson

Biography:

Dan Rogerson was re-elected MP for North Cornwall in May 2010 with a majority of 2,981.

Dan Rogerson entered Parliament at his second attempt in 2005, holding this seat for the Liberal Democrats. He has been reselected to stand here at the next general election.

After attending Bodmin College, Dan Rogerson read politics at the University of Wales at Aberystwyth. After graduating he worked for Bedford Borough Council as a researcher to the Liberal Democrat group (until he was elected to the council himself in 1999) and then as an admissions officer for De Montfort University. A fan of Terry Pratchett fantasy novels, he also enjoys blues music, political history and Celtic culture. He speaks some Cornish and is keen to promote the language as part of his commitment to diversity.

He was group deputy leader until he stood down from Bedford Council in 2002 and moved back to Cornwall as party organiser, a job he held until 2004.

As an MP his work on local issues includes: campaigns against the Council Tax and the disproportionately high water rates in Cornwall and for more affordable housing, shared equity schemes, devolution and a Cornish assembly.

He served as a member of the Culture, Media and Sport team in 2007 and is currently a Spokesperson for Communities and Local Government under Nick Clegg, who also appointed him as Liberal Democrat Whip. He was short-listed for ‘Maiden Speech of the Year’ in the annual parliamentary House Magazine awards.
