Cat Smith

Biography:

Cat Smith was MP for Lancaster & Fleetwood on May 7th 2015 with 17643 votes, taking 42.3% of the vote.

Prior to entering Parliament she worked for Jeremy Corbyn MP and as a policy officer for the British Association of Social Workers. In 2010 she contested the Wyre and Preston North constituency without success.

Smith has contributed to publications and news blogs associated with the Labour Party, including LabourList and Tribune.

Born in Barrow-in-Furness, Smith moved to Lancaster in 2003 where she studied at Cartmel College, Lancaster University, graduating with a BA in Sociology and Gender Studies. She identifies herself as a Christian, socialist, feminist, republican and trade unionist and, being bisessual, she is one of twenty-seven LGBTI MPs elected in the 2015 general election.
