Biography:
Bob Stewart was elected as Conservative MP for Beckenham on May 6th 2010 with a majority of 17,784.
After attending the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst Bob Stewart became an infantry officer.
A few years later the Army sent him to the University of Wales where he took a first class degree in International Politics.
In March 1991 he assumed command of 1st Battalion the Cheshire Regiment. As Commanding Officer he was the first British Commander under United Nations command in Bosnia during 1992-93.
On returning from Bosnia he was awarded the Distinguished Service Order. Promoted to Colonel he then took up the appointment of Chief of Policy at Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers in Europe.
Bob Stewart left the British Army in September 1995 to become Senior Consultant in Public Affairs at Hill & Knowlton (UK) Ltd.
In May 1998 he was appointed Managing Director of WorldSpace UK Ltd, a digital radio satellite broadcasting company.
In October 2001 he left WorldSpace to be a freelance consultant – specialising in leadership, communications, crisis management, and negotiation.
His first book ‘Broken Lives’, about command during the Balkan War, was a best-seller and his second ‘Leadership under Pressure’ was published in October 2009.
On 6th December 2009 Bob Stewart was selected to be the Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for Beckenham and was elected in May 2010.
He now sits on the House of Commons defense select committee.
