Anne Milton


Anne Milton was re-elected MP for Guildford on May 7th 2015 with 30802 votes, taking 57.1% of the vote.

Anne was born in 1955, is married to Graham and has four children. She was educated at Haywards Heath Grammar School in Sussex, and trained as a nurse at St Bartholomew’s Hospital in London. Anne worked for the NHS for 25 years. Anne has a wide range of experience in the NHS. She has nursed in hospitals, as a district nurse, worked in research and supporting GPs and nurses working in palliative care. She also pioneered a scheme to look after people who were sent home early from hospital. Her last job in the NHS was to give medical advice to councils and housing associations.

Anne loves gardening, has been a keen runner, and is an avid reader. With two children still at school and two at University Anne relies on them to keep her in tune with all the issues that come up for young people.

Anne has lived in Surrey since 1994 with her family.

Anne Milton’s Experience:

Anne became involved in politics in the early 1990’s, though in the past she was a union steward for the Royal College of Nursing and involved in the National Childbirth Trust after that.

Before being elected as an MP Anne was a borough councillor for five years in Surrey. She was Conservative Group Leader, a member of the South East Regional Assembly, Vice Chairman of the Conservative Medical Society and ran an innovative new project in Conservative Central Office on the 2001 general election campaign.

In November 2006, Anne was appointed Shadow Minister for Tourism in the Department of Culture, Media and Sport team. In July 2007, she was appointed as a Shadow Minister for Health. Between 2012-2014 she was Lord Commissioner of HM Treasury; between 2014 and 2015 she was appointed Vice-Chamberlain of the Household and, after the UK general election held in 2015, she was appointed Government Deputy Chief Whip of the House of Commons Treasurer of the Household.
