Adam Afriyie

Biography:

Adam Afriyie was re-elected MP for Windsor on May 7th 2015 with 31797 votes, taking 63.4% of the vote.

Adam was first elected MP for Windsor in 2005, and held his seat for the following two general elections. He joined the Conservative Party in 1990, and during his career as a politician campaigned for Jeffrey Archer – when he attempted to be elected as Mayor of London in 1999 -, was a member of the Science and Technological select committee and of the Children, Schools and Families select committee, and was appointed as President of the Conservative Technology Forum. Adam voted against the Marriage (Same Sex Couples) Bill in 2013 and the Equal Pay (Transparency) Bill in 2014.

Born in 1965 from an English mother and a Ghanaian father, he is the first Conservative mixed-race MP, even though he defines himself not as black but as “post-racial”.
