BASC has recruited an additional regional officer in the South West of England.
Sam Walker has joined the team following three years as deer officer at BASC's head office in north Wales.
Sam completed a HND in Game and Wildlife Management at Newton Rigg in Cumbria. After leaving college he worked as a single-handed keeper for a number of years, producing days of mixed partridge and pheasant shooting. He has a degree in conservation ecology where he tailored his studies on gamekeeping issues and wildlife management. Sam is a keen deer stalker and has managed Fallow, Roe and Muntjac on a number of estates. He’s also a keen shooting, fly fishing and gundog enthusiast.
He said: “I am really looking forward to my new position within BASC. I’ve been lucky enough to have worked for BASC for the past three years within the Game and Deer department, and being given the opportunity to communicate the work of BASC to our members and the wider audience in an area I grew up in and feel very passionate about is a real privilege."
David Gervers, BASC director South West England, said: “We are very pleased to welcome Sam to the BASC South West England regional team. Born and bred in the area, he knows the counties of Herefordshire and Gloucestershire well and we look forward to developing our presence and service in this important shooting area.”
Sarah Turner, a member of BASC Council, said: “It is fantastic to be able to welcome Sam into the South West Regional Team. Sam has done some exceptional work for the Game and Deer department and to have someone with such a passion and knowledge focussed on delivering the BASC message in his home counties is invaluable.”
Sam will be at the Frampton Country Fair on Sunday 10th September where he will be looking forward to meeting members from the area.
