Highways professionals will tackle the issues of road worker and road user safety at this autumn’s Highways UK event in Birmingham where a new dedicated conference on the subject is launching this year.
This ‘Safer Highways UK’ conference on 8 November recognises a need for the industry to share best practice and equip itself with the tools to ensure that the nation’s roads are a safe place to work and travel on.
It comes amid increasing pressure to reduce the numbers of people killed or seriously injured on the network – an agenda that has seen little in the way of significant progress in recent years.
Statistics released earlier this year showed that there were 25,160 KSIs from October 2015 to September 2016 – up from 23,824 during the previous 12 months.
The conference will also look to give employers solutions to issues in the areas of workforce engagement, breaking down barriers to cultural change, legal compliance and dealing with stigmas surrounding mental health in the workplace.
Key speakers confirmed for the full day programme include Highways England’s chief executive Jim O’Sullivan and chief highways engineer Mike Wilson.
The event is certified for continuing professional development by CIHT and is supported by safety organisations such as Driving for Better Business, Proud to be Safe and Mates in Mind.
