A team made up of a member of BASC staff, a BASC council member and two BASC members took a raft of medals in an international shooting competition on Jersey.
The team, ‘Phoenix Away’, took silver in the International Supershot Challenge, beating 24 other teams.
Phoenix Away was made up of Mike Eveleigh, BASC’s senior firearms officer, council member Martyn Jones and BASC members Mary Eveleigh and Mike Rimmer.
Mike Eveleigh took gold in the veterans category, Martyn Jones took silver and Mike Rimmer bronze. Mary Eveleigh took the gold medal in the ladies competition after scooping silver last year.
The competition, held at the Crabbé Ranges was organised by the Jersey Target Shooting Foundation and sponsored by Canaccord Genuity Wealth. It was raising money for the Stroke Association Jersey, CI Air Search and the Jersey Shooting Federation to help send Jersey teams to the Commonwealth Shooting Federation Championships. More than £100,000 has been raised for good causes since the Supershot Challenge was started in 1990.
Mike Eveleigh said: "The welcome and the hospitality shown to us, and the extremely efficient and friendly way the competition was organised was a real credit to Jersey and the Channel Islands as a whole."
Martyn Jones said: "This is a wonderful competition and is set up so that competitors of all ages and all skill levels can compete in a range of shooting sports including clays, rifle and pistol disciplines. It raises money for charity and shows shooting in all its forms as a responsible and inclusive sport. It is hard work for the organisers but well worth it."
Phoenix Away took overall gold last year and bronze the previous year.
