"The six-strong team dealt with 1,053 telephone calls in the first month of the new year"

Record-breaking January for BASC’s firearms team

BASC’s full-time firearms team followed a record-breaking 2016 by enjoying their busiest month ever in January.

The six-strong team dealt with 1,053 telephone calls in the first month of the new year as members sought confidential advice on all aspects of firearms ownership.

The team dealt with more than 10,000 calls in 2016 and the year saw two of the busiest months since records began, with 971 enquiries in September and 1038 in October.

Bill Harriman, BASC director of firearms, said: “The demands on our team continue to grow by the month. But thanks to our huge wealth of experience and diverse skillset, I am delighted that we are still managing to help our members.”

BASC is the only UK shooting organisation with a full-time firearms team, with its staff providing expert help and advice on technical, legal, practical and forensic issues.

The team offers guidance based on settled law or sustainable legal opinion and can also assist with accessing services available through BASC’s legal expenses insurance.

The team are also regularly invited to serve on firearms licensing Independent Advisory Groups (IAGs) in a bid to help reduce licensing delays and address other ongoing issues.

The firearms team can be reached on 01244 573010, with members urged to leave a message if they struggle to get through. For more details of its services, click here (http://basc.org.uk/firearms/).
