BASC congratulates Andrea Leadsom on new role

BASC has said it is looking forward to working with new Environment Secretary Andrea Leadsom to represent the interests of shooting.

Mrs Leadsom confirmed her support for shooting to BASC members during last year’s general election campaign.

BASC chairman Peter Glenser said: “BASC welcomes Andrea Leadsom to her new role and hopes to build on the excellent relationship we had with her predecessor Liz Truss.

“Prime Minister Theresa May has always been supportive of shooting sports and appreciates the benefits that they deliver to the countryside and the nation as a whole. This is reflected in her appointment of Mrs Leadsom.

“BASC will be speaking to the new ministers directly involved with shooting and looks forward to ensuring that shooting continues to flourish and deliver for both the environment and the economy.”

BASC has also thanked outgoing Environment Secretary Liz Truss for her work for shooting during her time in post, particularly regarding the announcement this week of the decision not to ban lead ammunition.

Peter Glenser added: “BASC enjoyed a productive working relationship with Liz Truss, who listened to our concerns and considered the sound evidence on key issues. We wish her well as Justice Secretary.

“We are grateful that one of her final acts as Environment Secretary was to close the door on those anti-shooting campaigners who tried, but ultimately failed, to influence government with hype and hysteria.”
