"Mrs Saville Roberts seemed impressed with the volume of good work which takes place at BASC"

Plaid Cymru MP tours BASC headquarters

The value of shooting to the Welsh economy was highlighted to Plaid Cymru MP Liz Saville Roberts during her visit to BASC’s Rossett headquarters.

Mrs Saville Roberts, who represents the Dwyfor Meirionnydd constituency, met staff from the UK’s largest shooting organisation during her tour of Marford Mill. She was told that shooting is worth £75 million to Wales and supports the full-time equivalent of 2,400 jobs.

Derek Williams, BASC’s country officer for Wales, said: “Mrs Saville Roberts seemed impressed with the volume of good work which takes place at BASC. She recognises that shooting provides important income to rural areas in Wales throughout the year. It supports conservation, employment and promotes good land-management.”

Mrs Saville Roberts said: “I welcomed the opportunity to visit an important national organisation that chooses to have its headquarters in Wales. I look forward to building a relationship with BASC as it continues to address issues which affect those who shoot and also those who rely on shooting to earn a living.”
