BASC has overhauled its Green Shoots Mapping software to allow wildfowlers to complete online bag returns.
The popular software was recently relaunched after being updated to work on tablets and smartphones.
In addition to this touchscreen functionality, a new ‘Bagged It’ feature has been specifically developed for wildfowlers to complete bag returns electronically rather than relying on traditional paper methods.
BASC have administered the current bag returns system for clubs and individuals since 1995, but have been keen to update to a modern reporting system which would improve speed and simplicity.
Paul Williamson, BASC’s rural land development manager, said: “After a two-year consultation, we are delighted that we have been able to integrate bag returns into the already successful Green Shoots Mapping software.
“We wanted to develop simplicity for the end user while ensuring confidentiality and security of data. BASC has always worked hard to represent the interests of wildfowlers; this online bag recording system is another example of the tangible benefits of that work.”
Wildfowling clubs lease 700km of the UK’s foreshore from the Crown and it is usually a massive undertaking for those clubs to record annual bag returns and conservation activities. This new online system should make that process easier for all involved.
BASC members will be able to use the new software immediately for species recording. Recording bag data will start from September 1 this year. The association will assist clubs and members with the transition to the online system over the next six months.
The Green Shoots Mapping software which allows users to download their shooting visits to an excel spreadsheet for in-depth analysis, has been designed on a software platform which maximises compatibility with a wide range of IT equipment.
