BASC statement on today’s The Times article: ‘Animal rights charity exposed over squandered fortune’

BASC chief executive Richard Ali said: “BASC has long called for charities to be transparent and accountable on how they spend the money donated by hard working people.

“Those donating to charities should satisfy themselves that the money will be used to public benefit and not find its way into quasi-political campaigns that result in unintended consequences that harm shooting and therefore the communities, economies and conservation efforts which shooting supports.

“We feel that there is a far greater role for the Charity Commission to oversee charities to ensure they do not go beyond their charitable objects.”
