Let Britain Fly criticises Budget speech for failing to mention new runway

Gavin Hayes, Director of Let Britain Fly said: “It’s disappointing that whilst the Chancellor stated in his Budget speech ‘we are the builders’ he then failed to reaffirm the government’s commitment to make a final decision on building a new runway in London and the South East by the summer.

“The government claim this was a budget for the long-term, but here we have an urgently needed upgrade to our national infrastructure that will deliver tens of thousands of new jobs and generate tens of billions in GDP and there was no mention of it in the Chancellor’s speech. This was a missed opportunity to build confidence that a decision will be made later this year and to send a positive signal to international investors that Britain is open for business.

“The fact is every further period of delay in making a decision to build a new runway is a threat to securing our country’s long-term prosperity.”
