BASC at the Party Conferences

BASC will be attending the four major party conferences this year.

The association will sponsor the Rural Reception at each of the party conferences and will be joined by the Angling Trust at the Conservative, Labour and Liberal Democrat conferences.

BASC will be taking its state of the art ST-2 shooting simulator to the Conservative conference exhibition where BASC coaches will introduce conference delegates, journalists and parliamentarians to shooting through the simulator.

In addition to a spokesman from the Angling Trust and Alan Jarrett, Chairman of BASC, the speakers at each party conference are as follows:

Liberal Democrats – Monday 21st September – Baroness Parminter, Deputy Leader in the Lords & Spokesperson for Environment and Rural Affairs

Labour – Monday 28th September –  to be confirmed  – Lord Knight, Labour spokesperson on Environment Food and rural affairs and Angela Smith MP, former spokesperson for Environment and Rural Affairs.

Conservatives – Monday 5th October – Elizabeth Truss MP, Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, and Geoffrey Clifton-Brown MP, Chairman of the All Party Parliamentary Group for Shooting and Conservation

SNP – Friday 16th October, Fergus Ewing MSP, Tourism Minister (to be confirmed)

Alan Jarrett, Chairman of BASC, said: “In the wake of the election these are an important set of conferences where BASC can build on its excellent political contacts to continue delivering for shooting in Westminster and Whitehall.”

Mark Lloyd, chief executive of the Angling Trust, said: “As an all-party representative organisation, the Angling Trust works hard to ensure that all major parties support angling and protect our interests. The party conference season and our high profile presence at each conference is an essential part of forging that consensus that helps protect and improve fish and fishing.”
