Workers’ memorial day – a poignant reminder of the tragic death of Ann Maguire

On Workers’ Memorial Day, the NASUWT, the largest teachers’ union in the UK, remembers Leeds schoolteacher and NASUWT member Ann Maguire on the first anniversary of her tragic death.

Chris Keates, NASUWT General Secretary, said:

“Workers’ Memorial Day this year has a special poignancy as it marks the first anniversary of the tragic death of Ann Maguire.

“Ann’s death, at the hands of a pupil, shocked the teaching profession.

“A dedicated and committed teacher, Ann gave her all for the young people she taught and died doing the job she loved so much.

“Our thoughts are with her friends, colleagues and students, who will be remembering her today, but most particularly our thoughts are with her family, who continue to deal on a daily basis with the devastating impact of her loss on their lives.

“Nothing can fill the void that Ann’s death has left but I am sure that they will always be proud that she was able to touch the lives of so many and that she has left a lasting legacy in the lives of the many pupils she taught.”
