Strictly stars help dog duo waltz off to happy new home

Stars of Strictly Come Dancing have helped to put a spring in the step of two abandoned Staffies after they made appeals on social media to help find them a new home.

Reigning dancefloor champion Abbey Clancy was among the stars to send out tweets encouraging a new owner to come forward for Fred and Ginger – the two lovable staffies named after the iconic Hollywood dance partners Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers.

Show favourites – judge Bruno Tonioli and dancers Brendan Cole, Kristina Rihanoff, Kevin Clifton, Karen Hauer and Flavia Cacace – were also among the stars to help highlight the plight of the two-year-old Staffordshire Bull Terriers and thanks to the social media push their story was spotted by the Reynolds family who have given the pair a loving new home.

New owner Marina Reynolds, from Storrington in West Sussex, said: “We saw Fred and Ginger on social media and just fell in love with them straight away.

“We love Staffies anyway – they are such beautiful affectionate dogs – and Fred and Ginger have stolen our hearts.

“They are a little bit like Strictly contestants where they may not be nimble movers – but they are having a great time! Fred is so laidback and not quite as graceful as his namesake and Ginger is so beautiful. We are completely smitten with them and cannot imagine life without them now. They are settling in very well and have so much love to give.

“They are having a great time with us already as they have been going out on plenty of walks and we have also down to the seaside – which they loved.

“We couldn’t recommend getting a rescue dog highly enough. RSPCA Millbrook really looked after us and the whole rehoming experience was great. We cannot thank them enough because we are so in love with Fred and Ginger.”
