NASUWT comments of the Scottish referendum result

Commenting on the no vote in the Scottish Referendum, Chris Keates, General Secretary of the NASUWT, the fastest growing teachers’ union in Scotland, said:

“The NASUWT is proud to be the largest UK-wide teachers’ union which is committed fully to representing the interests of Scottish teachers in Scotland and in Westminster.

“The NASUWT has not taken sides on this important constitutional issue and instead respected the right of its members to vote in accordance with their own beliefs.

“The reality is that education in Scotland is already a fully devolved matter and the NASUWT’s determination to work in Scotland to secure Scottish solutions for Scottish schools will continue unaffected by the no vote.

“The NASUWT is, and will continue to be, focused in Scotland on securing the conditions which will deliver the best educational outcomes for children and young people.

“Scotland’s continued success depends on the quality of its education system, which in turn depends upon securing decent pay and conditions of service for all teachers in Scotland.”
