MRSA Action UK launches poster campaign with local school

Derek Butler, Chairman of MRSA Action UK has joined forces with schools and hospitals to raise awareness that correct hand washing can directly prevent the spread of MRSA and can save lives.

Derek has been visiting hospitals during October – MRSA Awareness month. The awareness raising has gained momentum and continues with a visit to Outwood Grange Academy Kirkhamgate today. Derek and Andrea will be teaching the children about washing their hands to prevent the spread of MRSA and other germs and are launching a poster competition with MRSA Action UK, Pinderfields Hospital and Outwood Grange Academy, encouraging the children to create a poster highlighting the importance of washing their hands. The winning poster will be displayed around Pinderfields Hospital. The Hand Hygiene Campaign will also roll out to other hospitals.

There are resources available to promote hand washing for parents and children on the charity's website at http://mrsaactionuk.net/kidshandwashing.html. If you would like any further information regarding the charity or how you can get involved then please contact info@mrsaactionuk.net.

Andrea Jenkyns is the Yorkshire voluntary representative and became a trustee of MRSA Action UK in March 2012 after losing a loved one to MRSA. She pledged to raise awareness of how to prevent MRSA and is determined to help save other lives by highlighting the importance of cleanliness in hospitals and the role that the general public play in preventing the spread of MRSA. Over the last 18 months she has worked with hospital trusts and has been involved with the Department of Health’s Patient Led Inspections.

Miss Jenkyns said, “MRSA Awareness Month means that we as a charity have a brilliant opportunity to raise awareness of this disease. The Hand Hygiene Campaign is one that all ages and demographics can engage with and Hospitals are being very supportive in helping to spread this message alongside the charity.”
