NASUWT announces donation to help support of education of women and girls

The NASUWT, the largest teachers union, is proud to announce it will be donating £10,000 towards a fund that will support the education of women and girls around the world.

At an International Reception held at the NASUWT Annual Conference in Bournemouth, the Union made the announcement in honour of the struggle of Malala Yousafzai, the Pakistani schoolgirl who survived an assassination attempt by the Taliban.

Her father, Ziauddin Yousafzai was present and spoke to hundreds of invited guests and VIPs about the importance of education as an essential human right for all children.

NASUWT General Secretary, Chris Keates, said:

“We are very proud and privileged to have Ziauddin at our Conference. The International Reception is an important part of the work of the NASUWT.

“Malala's story reminds us of the importance of access to education for all children and young people, and the important role teachers play in securing that goal.

“Malala has shown amazing courage and commitment to education and particularly the right of all girls to have equal access to education.

Ziauddin Yousafazi, himself a teacher for 18 years, said:

“Thank you for the generosity of the NASUWT.

“Teachers are a very important part of society; teachers make societies. A school teacher is like a builder: they build the soul of human beings, the respect for human beings.”
