NASUWT: ‘Advanced Baccalaureate’ shows Gove’s ideological manipulation of curriculum

Responding to reports that the Secretary of State for Education is planning to introduce an ‘Advanced Baccalaureate’ as part of reforms to A-levels, Chris Keates, General Secretary of the NASUWT, said:

“This is another example of Michael Gove’s ideological manipulation of the school curriculum.

“These changes are being made on the basis of his own personal prejudices rather than developing a curriculum which is fit for children and young people in the 21st century.

“These reforms will have far-reaching effects for future generations of learners, directly impacting on the social and economic wellbeing of the country.

“There is nothing wrong with initiating debate on and review of the qualifications framework, however this should be informed by a balanced and rationale debate on the aims, objectives and purposes of the qualifications system and how it might continue to evolve in future.”
