Regulation of the UK financial services sector is changing. The Financial Services Bill will establish a new regulator – the Financial Conduct Authority – with an overall objective to make financial services markets work well for consumers. The FCA is expected to be a more intrusive and proactive regulator than the FSA.  For example, it will be more willing to influence, or even ban, the products that are available on the market.  Meanwhile, there are a number of new proposals reshaping conduct regulation at the EU level and the European Supervisory Authorities are becoming more active in the conduct space. So the landscape is changing and this is a key opportunity to hear about these developments from the key players.

We are pleased that our keynote speaker for the conference is Martin Wheatley, the CEO Designate for the FCA. He will outline how conduct regulation will be changing and how the new regulator will seek to get a fair deal for consumers.

The ABI is keen to work with the FCA to ensure positive outcomes for consumers, and at the conference we will publish a new paper, on the future of conduct regulation. This will set out our vision of what well-functioning financial services markets and good conduct regulation looks like, for the UK consumer, five years from now. We will also have a range of speakers and contributors, including EU regulators, consumer bodies and senior industry practitioners.

The conference will cover a range of themes including:

What consumer outcomes should the regulator and the industry be aiming for?
What does a commitment to product intervention mean in practice?
How will FCA fulfil its new responsibility to promote competition?
How should the FCA interact with other key bodies in financial services, such as the PRA, FOS, MAS and the OFT?
What are the implications of the expansion of EU-level regulation for the FCA?
How should the industry respond to changes in the regulatory environment?
As this event is expected to be popular, registration is now open.
