Hurry! Deadline approaches for RSPCA young photographer contest

Could your best animal photos win a top prize?

Time is running out for budding young photographers to submit their best animal-themed images for one of the country’s most prestigious competitions.

The closing date for the RSPCA’s Young Photographer Awards is Monday 10 September. It is sponsored by Warners Midlands, supported by Olympus and Natures Images and will be judged by an impressive mix of photography professionals including presenter and wildlife expert Chris Packham.

Thousands of entries have already flooded in depicting much-loved family pets, cleverly spotted wildlife and even some close-ups of insects in the garden – but there are still two weeks left for young people to showcase their talent and be in for a chance of winning the coveted title.

Andrew Forsyth, chief photographer for the RSPCA, said: “This year’s deadline is looming and we’d hate anyone to miss out. If you’re thinking about entering now is the time to go for it – don’t delay.

“We had an amazing response last year – nearly eight thousand entries

– and it looks likely to be even more  this year. It is great to see so many talented young people so enthused about photographing animals, many hope to make this a career.”

The overall winner will go on an amazing three-day photography break with top wildlife photographer Danny Green, courtesy of Natures Images. Olympus cameras worth up to £500 are also up for grabs for winners and runners up in each category. We’ve also got vouchers to spend at Hamleys, ‘the finest toy shop in the world’.

There are three age categories, plus the old favourites: Pet Personalities, the Portfolio Award and People’s Choice. Launched last year the category Making Life Better, is for images that best illustrate how animals make people’s lives better.
