CIOT: International tax qualification continues to grow

A record number of candidates have passed the 2012 Advanced Diploma in International Taxation (ADIT) exams.

In the 2012 ADIT exams, 286 candidates passed 340 papers. This compares to 208 candidates passing 252 papers in 2011. These successful candidates come from 41 different countries.

2012 saw a significant increase in the number of people sitting ADIT papers with a total of 391 candidates sitting 526 papers. That is up 33% from last year.

41 candidates gained the full ADIT qualification this year, up from 28 in 2011.

ADIT is a global qualification with 1,400 candidates, holders and affiliates living and working in more than 90 countries, including every continent, major market centre and business sector.

There are now eight different tax jurisdictions covered in the various ADIT option papers: EC, USA, China, UK, Australia, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Malta. The subject paper, ‘Transfer Pricing’, introduced for the first time last year, continues to grow in popularity.

The Chartered Institute of Taxation President, Patrick Stevens, commenting on the results said:

“My warm congratulations to all successful candidates. ADIT is a challenging qualification and candidates should feel proud of the technical expertise and analytical skills they have demonstrated in achieving one or more passes in June 2012. We hope to welcome them as International Tax Affiliates of the Chartered Institute of Taxation in due course.

“ADIT is going from strength to strength. The qualification’s status as a global benchmark is evident in the ever-increasing number of candidates pursuing the qualification and the scope of countries where they work.”

Notes to Editors

The Advanced Diploma in International Taxation (ADIT) is a modular qualification with three examinations, of which Paper II or Paper III may be substituted by a thesis.  Those who have completed all the elements to be awarded the Diploma may use the designatory letters “ADIT”.  The Diploma is a free-standing qualification which does not give the right to membership of The Chartered Institute of Taxation.  However, holders of the Diploma may apply to become an “International Tax Affiliate of The Chartered Institute of Taxation”.  This ongoing link with the CIOT will entitle the individual to receive a number of benefits.

The overall standard of ADIT is comparable to the CTA in the UK, and is supervised by an Academic Board of distinguished and highly respected international tax professionals.
