CIOB has transparent carbon reporting approved

Last year when the Chartered Institute of Building launched its Carbon Action 2050 campaign it also became one of the first professional bodies in the UK to sign up to the Global Reporting Initiative standard and is urging others to do the same.

By signing up to GRI the CIOB committed itself to openly report and manage its own sustainability performance including its carbon footprint. Twelve months on and the CIOB has had its first report approved by GRI.

“We feel there is more credibility in having an international standard measure our sustainability performance than produce a report to fit our own criteria. There is always a danger in being your own judge and jury, said Chris Blythe CIOB Chief Executive.

He added, “The beauty of GRI is that it is adaptable to fit your needs no matter where you are on sustainability and it encourages you to openly disclose that information. We launched our Carbon Action 2050 initiative with the same ideals – to make sustainability advice and information more accessible.”

Since its launch in 2011 the Carbon Action 2050 campaign has reached thousands of people in the construction industry, and has recently linked with ConstructionSkills’ own ‘Cut the Carbon’ initiative.
