NUT: Changing funding at a time of budget restrictions isn’t fair

Following today’s decision by Government to delay the implementation of a new school funding formula until 2015, Christine Blower, General Secretary of the National Union of Teachers, the largest teachers’ union, said:

“It is welcome that the proposals are not being implemented immediately. Simple and transparent funding is important but so is fairness. Changing the funding system at a time of budget restrictions isn’t fair.

“Schools are already struggling to cope with the Government’s funding freeze and cuts in grants. Students across the country are now going to suffer even more when money is taken away from their schools to give to others and local authorities can no longer provide vital support”.
