The memory of David Rathband will stay with us as a clear reminder of the dangers of policing

The National Association of Retired Police Officers is shocked by the news of the death of David Rathband. We believe his death should be seen as directly consequential on his commitment to duty and to the protection of his local community. It is an extreme but not unique example of the devastating effect that serious injury can have on the futures of police officers injured in their duty of protecting the public. David will not be forgotten by his colleagues and comunity.

Eric Evans, the President of NARPO said, ‘Our thoughts go out to David Rathband’s family and friends at this difficult time. David has rightly received the admiration of people from across communities following his bravery. The memory of David Rathband and the pain he has suffered for simply doing his duty will be with us into the future as a clear reminder of the dangers of policing.’
