DVLA office fight moves to parliament

MPs will be lobbied tomorrow (Wednesday 22 February) by campaigners who want to stop the closure of all 39 regional offices of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency.

The Public and Commercial Services union – which represents the 1,200 workers facing unemployment – has invited politicians to a drop-in briefing at the House of Commons from 10.30am.

The closures would wipe out the high quality face-to-face services these offices provide to the public and motor traders, whose often complex enquiries could not be handled by telephone or online.

The would also be a further blow to local economies and retail areas already struggling as a result of rising unemployment and wage cuts.

The offices facing closure are: Aberdeen:, Greyfriars House, Gallow Gate.
