IET: A mature and joined-up approach to manufacturing policy is essential

Professor Steve Evans from the Institution of Engineering and Technology said: “It is great news to learn that the Government is taking a careful, structured and most importantly long-term view of manufacturing.

“Manufacturing is a high investment, high skills and high value endeavour that benefits from a clear framework to plan within.

“I hope that the Foresight project will include evidence from small and large manufacturers alike, as well as those established companies and our nascent pioneers bringing tomorrow’s products.

“It is essential that a mature and joined-up approach to future policy is based on sound understanding of the industrial system.”
