CIHT Launches Quality Audit Advice Note

CIHT today launched the Department for Transport Quality Audit Traffic Advisory Leaflet (TAL) at a seminar in London.

The leaflet entitled Transport Advisory Leaflet 5/11 gives advice on the use of Quality Audit in the street design process and builds on the work amongst others of the Manual for Streets documents.

Delegates heard what the benefits of integrating Quality Audit into a project management process are including:

· Delivery of a transparent process that demonstrates that needs of all user groups have been considered both locally and strategically

· Putting check procedures in place to enable objectives to be delivered

· Contributing to cost efficiency in design and implementation

· Encouraging engagement with stakeholders

Sue Percy, CIHT Chief Executive said:

“The design of our streets and roads has a huge impact on our environment and quality of life. Local Authorities and all those who carry out design, maintenance and or improvements to the streets of the UK will benefit from the adoption of this advice.”

“This Quality Audit TAL provides practical guidance to assist good street design and is the result of a successful collaboration between industry experts and the Department for Transport.”

The TAL shows how integrating a Quality Audit framework into scheme design and construction procedures can enhance the delivery and outcome of a project.
