St Dunstan's Llandudno – new centre opening

Built in 1902 by the Forrester family as a convalescence home for shale miners this magnificent building in Llandudno is the newest centre for St Dunstan's which will open in September 2011. This centre promises to be another fantastic addition to our overall facilities and has been renovated and refurbished to bring out the best of this building.

New centre in Llandudno
The facilities at this centre will include:

40 bedrooms with a mixture of 23 singles and 17 double rooms all with en suite facilities.
14 care rooms in total will 11 of them in the Poppy Wing extension. The Poppy Wing rooms will be able to cater for beneficiaries with either nursing or lower level of care we term as residential. The rooms will be used in the following format:
5 for nursing.
9 for residential.
1 training flat.
25 for beneficiaries without care who are staying for either a holiday or rehabilitation and training.
A variety of residential lounges, a bar, outdoor terrace, fully equipped gymnasium, sports/activities hall and an art and craft workshop.
Set on large scenic grounds for beneficiaries to enjoy with designated safe pathways.
The Rehabilitation and Training unit will have the ability to complete tailor made introduction and training weeks for our beneficiaries offering a range of facilities and packages.

The Centre being located in North Wales will be more accessible for St Dunstaners who may have found Sheffield or Ovingdean too far to travel to.

The Centre will be open 365 days a year for rehabilitation and training, holidays and respite care just as the Ovingdean Centre.

The new Centre will be invaluable in helping us to meet the needs of the ever increasing numbers of St Dunstaners. We shall be able to provide help and support to more beneficiaries, enabling them to adapt to their loss of sight, regain their independence and achieve a better quality of life. We also hope that our presence in Llandudno will make a useful contribution to the town and surrounding area.
