UNITE: Support the march and rally to save Bombardier
When: Saturday, 23 July, 2011 at 10.00am
Where: Meet at Bass’s Recreation Ground (opposite Derby bus station), at the intersection of A601 St Alkmund's Way and B6000 Station Approach, Derby and march to the rally at Cathedral Green at the intersection of Full Street and Amen Alley, Derby.
Thousands of people are expected to attend the march and rally to save the UK's last train maker on Saturday 23 July following the Tory-led government's decision to exclude Bombardier UK from a contract to build new train carriages.
Unite, Britain's biggest union is leading the march and rally in Derby, the home of Bombardier which also has the highest concentration of companies manufacturing train components in Europe.
The event will involve high profile speakers to be announced from the trade union movement, politicans and the media and is expected to attract thousands of supporters who will urge the Tory-led government to secure Bombardier's future. The workers, along with their trade unions Unite, RMT, GMB and TSSA are determined to stop this happening to Bombardier workers and their families.
1,400 workers face redundancy and the future of Bombardier, the UK's last train maker is at risk. Unite is urging as many people as possible to attend to call on the government to reverse its decision to exclude Bombardier from a crucial contract to build new carriages for the Thameslink project.
