Unite reaction to You Gov survey on Bombardier

The latest survey from polling company You Gov shows that almost three in five British people think that the government should prioritise British companies over foreign ones when awarding major contracts (see notes to editors).

Unite general secretary, Len McCLuskey said:

"The weight of public opinion is on the side of Bombardier and against the government's short-sighted decision. Politicians, the public and the media are equally shocked by the Tory-led government's decision not to award Bombardier the Thameslink contract. The Government's must re-think its disastrous decision and support British manufacturing and skilled jobs."

Len McCLuskey will meet with Phillip Hammond, Secretary of State for Transport, tomorrow (13 July) to urge him to re-think the decision to exclude Bombardier from the Thameslink contract.

Unite, is organising a major rally in Derby city centre in support of Bombardier workers on 23 July and to call on the government to rethink its decision .
