IET Issues Call for Entries for 2011 Innovation Awards

The Institution of Engineering & Technology (IET) has today issued the call for entries for its 2011 Innovation Awards, celebrating the brightest minds at the forefront of innovative engineering.

Recognising the depth and breadth of innovative work being carried out across all areas of engineering and technology, at all stages of development, the IET Innovation Awards span 15 categories. Categories include transport, built environment and software in design, which will be judged by a panel of more than 80 engineering experts. The 2011 Innovation Awards also sees a new category added for embedded and critical systems.

The IET encourages individuals and companies to put forward nominations beyond products, systems and equipment. Nominations promoting intelligent design, projects, analysis, research and modelling will also be considered. This year’s awards are sponsored by a variety of well established innovators, including ABB, Altran Praxis, Lloyds Register, The Mathworks, National Grid and NPL.

“Engineering is one of the most innovative professions in the world and these awards aim to recognise the wide variety of exciting innovations that are changing the world we live in.” said Tim Hamer, Director of Knowledge Management at The IET. “Interest and entries in the awards is increasing year-on-year and this, the seventh year of the Innovation Awards sees the debut of the embedded and critical systems category and promises to be one of the most exciting yet.”

The awards will be presented at a glittering ceremony, to be held at the Intercontinental Hotel, London on 9 November 2011. Entry to the Innovation Awards is free and details about how to enter can be found here. The closing date for entries is Friday 29 July 2011.

The IET provides around £200,000 every year in awards and scholarships and gives undergraduates and post-graduates scholarships of up to £10,000.
