ABI response to Hutton Report on Public Service Pension Reform

Responding to Lord Hutton’s report on Public Services Pension Reform, Maggie Craig the ABI’s acting Director General, said:

“We are pleased that Lord Hutton’s Report focuses on the need to make sure that public sector pensions are sustainable and affordable for the long-term.

“The private sector has been for some time taking similar steps to meet the challenges we face in saving enough for retirement.

“We hope Lord Hutton’s reforms will reassure people of the value of public sector pensions and reinforce the importance for everyone to save for their future.”

“The country is having to grapple with how future generations will provide for themselves in retirement. This is no mean feat, with at least half the children that were born in the UK in 2000 expecting to reach their 100th birthday.”
