PCS: Union responds to Francis Maude over redundancy pay
In response to Cabinet Office Minister Francis Maude’s answer in the Commons where he claimed that PCS has not engaged in discussions over the civil service compensations scheme, Mark Serwotka PCS general secretary said: “We believe Francis Maude’s comments made in the Commons today are deliberately misleading. PCS has done everything possible to engage in discussions over changes to our members’ redundancy entitlements.
We have even put forward proposals that would protect the lowest paid but the Minister is refusing to look at them despite promising us that they would lead to further talks. This is therefore preventing any chance of reaching an agreed settlement. Instead of forcing through legislation which would seriously worsen our members’ redundancy entitlement and attempting to make job cuts on the cheap, the government needs to sit down and listen to what we are proposing with a view to reaching a negotiated agreement.”
