Unite rejects case for the privatisation of Royal Mail

Paul Reuter, Unite national officer said:

“The privatisation of Royal Mail is unnecessary as the business has already reached agreements with the unions to modernise which is currently happening.

“The Postal Services Bill shows that the government has no idea how to implement its policy of a sell-off. There is little interest in the market for a high value sell- off and the population of the UK already owns the Royal Mail.

“We are currently experiencing job cuts, under privatisation this would get even worse.

“If private equity takes an interest in Royal Mail this will only be for short-term profit through asset stripping. They are not in business to provide a public service, they are out to make money, pure and simple.”
