Unite welcomes Ken’s selection

Unite, Britain’s biggest union, has welcomed the selection of Ken Livingstone as Labour’s candidate for London Mayor.
Steve Hart, Unite’s regional secretary for London said:

“London deserves better than Boris the do nothing Mayor. Ken is back and that’s great news for working people across the capital. All that Londoners have seen under the Tory mayor is staggering increases in bus and tube fares.

“Boris started the cuts before Cameron did. In October we’ll see more massive cuts across London. Boris must take responsibility for these cuts and be held to account in the 2012 elections.

“We look forward to the next eighteen months, Unite will be campaigning with Ken on the issues which are important to working people in London, particularly transport and the defence of public services.

“Labour members in the capital, along with members of organisations affiliated to the party, including the unions, showed equal support for Ken’s candidacy. That’s a clear signal of Ken’s broad appeal across London.”
