PSAEW comment on anti-social behaviour report
Chief Superintendent Derek Barnett said: ‘We welcome the report into this important issue which blights so many lives in our communities.
‘The report reinforces our belief that partnership working is overwhelmingly police led and that where there is genuine partnership engagement the overall response to anti-social behaviour is enhanced in comparison to individual agency responses.
‘Tackling anti-social behavior is a core policing function – but it is not our officers alone who can tackle it successfully. A concerted effort across partner agencies, and with the involvement of communities themselves, is the most effective way to curb this problem, to restore peace to our streets and impact on other levels of criminality.
‘I am pleased that the report recognises the value of having front line police officers able to respond promptly and effectively – an issue of critical importance at a time when police funding is under threat.
‘Anti-social behaviour is debilitating to local communities and the individuals affected, it can lead, as we have seen, to tragic consequences and we must have systems in place which readily recognise repeat victimisation.
‘My members will do everything they can to ensure that issues such as this do not become sidelined when cuts start affecting the Police Service.’
