CIOB: A day for Construction Management

Leading construction and project management bodies from across the globe have today announced that the second Monday in March each year will be ‘International Construction Management Day’.

The declaration is the brainchild of the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB), the International Project Management Association (IPMA) and the Construction Management
Associations of America (CMAA), Japan (CMAJ), and Korea (CMAK).

Saleem Akram CIOB Director for Construction, Innovation and Development said, “Construction processes have been transformed from merely erecting structures to complete management of built environments based on extensive knowledge, experience and management skill. We call this comprehensive group of services Construction Management, and it has become a global focus of attention.

“It is clear that at time when the world’s finances are being restructured and the carbon reduction challenge gathers pace, the role of construction management is becoming increasingly crucial. But there is still work to be done to raise the profile of CM and the significant impact it has on securing healthy fulfilled populations. The International Construction Management Day provides the opportunity for each national or regional CM community, along with individual practitioners, academics and other allies, to promote and celebrate CM in their own way. “
