Alain Dromer to become ABI Investment Committee Chairman

Alain Dromer, Chief Executive of Aviva Investors is to become the next Investment Committee Chairman of the ABI. Mr Dromer will take on this new role on 15th September 2010, replacing Keith Skeoch, Chief Executive of Standard Life Investments, who will step down having completed three years in office.

As a result of this appointment Mr Dromer will join the Board of the ABI. Alain Dromer has been Chief Executive of Aviva Investors since September 2007. He has enjoyed an extensive career in financial services including roles as Global Head of Group Investment Businesses at HSBC; Senior Executive Vice President, a member of the Executive Committee and Head of asset management and insurance at Credit Commercial de France (CCF); and positions at La Compagnie Financiere Edmond de Rothschild, Paris, as Director of Capital Markets; at the French Treasury in the Ministry of Finance; and at the French Institute for Statistics and Economic Studies.

Alain Dromer said:

“I am delighted to become the new ABI Investment Committee Chairman at such an important time. As the Financial Services Sector emerges from one of the biggest financial crises in memory, there is a real opportunity for ABI members to actively engage in setting the future shape of our industry and address the needs of our wider stakeholders. Our involvement last year in the drafting of the FRC stewardship code was a good example of where these opportunities lie and how we can work together to provide a constructive solution. Our members have also played a large part in recapitalising and refinancing the economy.

“I’m keen to build on these efforts, ensuring that collective engagement is as effective as it can be and that the ABI is at the forefront in demonstrating how its members not only serve its clients but create value for society more broadly.”

Maggie Craig, the ABI’s acting Director General said:

“I`m very pleased that Alain Dromer has agreed to take over the role. His experience of the global financial services sector and his detailed knowledge of the asset management industry will help to maintain the high quality of the committee’s work and will ensure its relevance to the changing times in which our industry is operating.

“I would like to thank Keith Skeoch for his exceptional service to the ABI. He has chaired the committee through a number of unprecedented events, and personally engaged with politicians and regulators to great effect. As well as promoting the interests of institutional investors he has also done much to lead the debate on how to improve the governance process.”

Keith Skeoch said:

“I have enjoyed my time as Chairman, and am proud of the achievements the Committee has overseen. The last three years have been difficult and challenging time for the capital markets. The ABI Investment Committee has been at the forefront of explaining and demonstrating the role shareholders can play in improving their functioning. This has been seen in both engagement with companies and the allocation of capital to help facilitate recovery.”
