Humanists award Richard Dawkins for promoting reason and science across the world

Richard Dawkins, evolutionary biologist and internationally renowned atheist, sceptic and humanist is to receive an award for his ‘work in promoting reason and science worldwide’ on 6th June during an international gathering of humanist organisations from all over the world. The award is being given by the British Humanist Association (BHA) and the International Humanist and Ethical Union (IHEU) following a conference during the day on ‘Darwin, Humanism and Science’, at which Professor Dawkins is a key speaker.

Hanne Stinson, BHA chief executive, said, ‘Richard Dawkins’ commitment to increasing public understanding of science is unfaltering and he has spent much of his distinguished career so far promoting a rational and humanist approach to the world, with his much celebrated book ‘The God Delusion’ perhaps one of the most well-known and, to some, controversial publications in recent years.’

Professor Dawkins will receive his award at a dinner for international delegates following a conference at which he will be speaking on Darwin and the Theory of Evolution. The conference is being hosted by the BHA as part of the programme of events surrounding the general assemblies of the European Humanist Federation and International Humanist and Ethical Union, which are both being hosted by the BHA in London this week.
