Unite reaction to Lloyds Banking Group bonus story

Wendy Dunsmore, Unite National Officer said: “Staff at the new Lloyds Banking Group must not be made scapegoats in the public debate around pay and bonuses in the financial services sector. The front-line workforce, many of which earn as little as £17,000 per year, are in no way responsible for the financial difficulties which the bank now finds itself in. Unite will not accept a situation where staff are made to suffer financially for the mistakes or greed of the top executives who ran the bank.

“The employees of Lloyds Banking Group have worked hard and must be rewarded fairly for their efforts. These low paid employees have clear performance targets and future bonus payments are measured in relation to work done throughout the pervious year. It is only right and proper that the company ensures that their loyal and hard working employees get the appropriate recognition for their work.”
