CIOB calls for industry and academic innovation and research entries

The closing date for this year’s Chartered Institute of Building’s (CIOB) International Innovation and Research Awards is Friday 20th February 2009.

The awards play an important role by bringing together practitioners, education and training providers and policy makers. This interaction helps to develop, promote and implement new ideas and methods, which enables entrants to be on the forefront of excellence and innovative working.

Dr Sarah Peace the CIOB’s Research Manager said: “To further our goal of supporting excellence in innovation and research, we are delighted to announce that the 2008/09 Awards are open to all non-members and non-CIOB accredited academic institutions as well.”

The seven categories for the Awards are:

· Undergraduate Dissertation Award
These awards are for outstanding dissertation research from undergraduate students.

· Masters Dissertation Award
These are awards in recognition of the importance of research undertaken at Masters Degree level.

· Research Paper Award
This award is in recognition of the importance of research undertaken at any stage throughout higher education either within the industry or in academia.

· Innovation Achievers Award
In recognition of the important contribution those in practice make to innovation and research in construction.

· Architecture and Surveying Innovation Award
The Faculty of Architecture and Surveying (FAS) is sponsoring an award for innovative practice in the areas of architecture or surveying.

· International Construction Project Management Award
The International Construction Project Management Association (ICPMA) is an international umbrella association founded in June 2003 by representatives of International Construction Project Management Institutes. The ICPMA Award focuses on practical innovation in the field of Construction Project Management.

· Innovation and Technology Development Prize
Pera is an international network of technology development and industry support centres that help firms to develop innovative new products; improve business performance and enhance management and leadership skills. The winner of the Pera prize will see their innovative concept proceed through the stages required for commercialisation.

This prize, sponsored and supported by Pera, is open to entrants who can demonstrate that their innovation is able to create intellectual property rights and be capable of being patented.

Pera Prize of ?55,000 in the form of business consultancy leading to a funding submission. To benefit from funding the applicant must be based in the UK or Europe.
