BPAS journal publishes further papers from 2008’s landmark ‘Future of Abortion’ conference

BPAS has today published the second in a series of special editions of the journal Abortion Review, presenting edited papers from June 2008’s landmark BPAS conference ‘The Future of Abortion’.

This conference was opened by a UK government minister and made news headlines around the world, as key players from the international sexual and reproductive health scene presented their views on the latest issues and future directions of abortion and contraceptive care.

Contributions to the second edited collection of papers examine the hard questions about why women need abortions, and what this means for the kind of service that needs to be provided. Further edited collections of papers from other areas of the conference will be published on the Abortion Review website soon. Inside this issue:

– ARE THERE TOO MANY ABORTIONS? Ann Furedi, Chief Executive of BPAS

– IS REPEAT ABORTION A PROBLEM? Sam Rowlands, Visiting Senior Lecturer at Warwick Medical School

– HOW LATE IS TOO LATE FOR WOMEN? Dr Ellie Lee, Senior Lecturer in Social Policy at the University of Kent

– WHY CONTRACEPTION FAILS. Professor James Trussell, Director of the Office of Population Research at Princeton University

– THE MORNING AFTER – WHAT USE IS EMERGENCY CONTRACEPTION? Kate Guthrie, Clinical Director of Hull and East Riding Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare Partnership

– HOW IMPORTANT IS CHOICE AND CARE? Chris Plummer, Director of Strategy at BPAS

– WHAT IS DIFFERENT ABOUT YOUNG PEOPLE? Lisa Hallgarten, Head of Policy and Communication at Education for Choice
