ABI: Response to Cameron speech on savings

Stephen Haddrill, the ABI’s Director General, said:

“We are pleased that at the start of the New Year, both Gordon Brown and David Cameron have finally recognised the importance of savings in helping the country climb out of the current downturn. With saving at the lowest level for 50 years, action is needed now. This is why we called for increased ISA limits ahead of the PBR and why we are now asking the Government to bring forward automatic enrolment into existing pensions provision to help encourage pension saving.

“To help the UK develop a new savings culture, there needs to be a package of measures aimed at all taxpayers, including encouraging insurance that helps families protect their homes and savings.”
