CIOT: Powers implementation oversight forum

The Chartered Institute of Taxation (CIOT) is very pleased that the Government has announced the formation of an Implementation Oversight Forum to oversee the introduction of the new powers, deterrents and safeguards. The Forum is to be made up from external stakeholders and relevant HMRC directors. The Forum will report to ministers.

Nick Goulding, CIOT President, says: “We are very pleased to welcome this as the CIOT, in its responses to Government, has been calling for a body to review the implementation of the new HMRC civil powers.”

Many tax advisers and their clients have expressed concerns about how the new powers would be implemented. The introduction of this separate forum, which will be able to gather comments from across tax advisers and taxpayers, will help allay those concerns and also contribute to ensuring that the new powers, deterrents and safeguards are implemented effectively for not only HMRC but for taxpayers and their advisers.
