Taxpayers’ Charter announcement: CIOT response

Taxpayers’ Charter announcement: CIOT response

The Chartered Institute of Taxation (CIOT) welcomes the announcement that the HMRC Charter for Taxpayers’ will be going ahead – and especially the commitment that the Charter should be in statute.

The CIOT has long argued for a Charter to act as an important safeguard for taxpayers and a balance to the extension of HMRC’s powers coming out of the ongoing Powers review. Placing the Charter in statute will help establish its authority.

Nick Goulding, CIOT President, says: “We are particularly pleased to hear that HMRC have stated that the Charter will should be grounded in statute. This is vital to give it the proper authority. We look forward to working with HMRC and the DWP on the content of the Charter.”
