CIOB: Croner and the CIOB urge construction companies to build on their legal know-how

Croner, experts in workplace and construction safety issues and part of Wolters Kluwer UK, has produced a new guide designed to give construction businesses all the legal and management information they need to run a safe and efficient enterprise.

Published in conjunction with the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB), the Health & Safety Handbook draws on new legislation and advises on the breadth of health and safety issues that affect the construction sector.

In the last 25 years, more than 2,800 people have died from injuries received as a result of their day-to-day duties on construction sites in the UK, with many more falling ill or being injured as a result of poor health and safety practice.

With the introduction of the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2007 and the influx of migrant workers into the UK, the industry is going through one of it’s greatest-ever periods of change. Few construction businesses are fully aware of all their obligations under new laws. The Croner and CIOB guide offers solutions to ensure that companies operate in a safe, legal and cost-efficient way, while ultimately avoiding prosecution.

Martin Smith, executive director of Croner, said: “Every construction business needs to be aware of its obligations to employees, with health and safety being the main priority. Croner’s handbook for construction offers advice to businesses on legislation, contracts, environmental demands, chemical hazards, operating machinery, fire safety and much more. We are positive that this book will prove an invaluable resource to all businesses in the construction industry.”

John Douglas CIOB director, said: “We have worked very closely with Croner on the publication of the Health and Safety Handbook and recommend that every construction office should have a copy.”

Croner Construction: Health & Safety Handbook is priced at £70 + postage and packaging. A discounted pre-publication offer of £63 + postage and packaging* is available through www.constructionbooksdirect.com, or by calling Construction Books Direct, the official bookshop of The CIOB on 01344 630 810.
